About friends and friendship

At lunchtime, IG showed me a short video from Sex and the City, where Carrie goes to meet her friends and thinks: it's good to have a life partner, but it's also good to meet my unmarried friends to go to the movies. I immediately have a lot of thoughts and questions: how to find friends, especially for me, who recently (for 10 years) lives in the country, how and at what age do they make friends in America, and how  4 different women from the movie (what do they have in common at all?) became friends? me and my married friends, Tomsk Once upon a time in a past life, I decided that I had enough friends. And not just enough, but a lot. I didn't have enough time to communicate with everyone. Then I moved to America. I continued to communicate with Russian friends online, but I really wanted to find American friends. I thought that a friend would help to adapt to a new country faster. It took me a while to get to know a lot of people. Some of them I can call friends. But how...

October 2013

Friday, October 20, 9:40 pm, I can call it for the day.  The day was long and busy. But now I can relax and think about  what I was doing at this time and on this day 10 years ago? I know almost exactly. Well, Evening of Oct 20th, 2013. Los Angeles Airport. I walked around in circles trying not to fall asleep on my feet. I was on the road for more than 24 hours, tired, hungry, scared and a little bit proud of myself.  I managed to get to Los Angeles (I have never traveled abroad, I saw palm trees for the first time in my life!), and went through the customs. You know, the person (a customs officer, or whatever you call them) was questioning me about the purpose of my trip. Why? The US government already gave me a Visa, I already had permission from them. Why stress me out? But it’s ok. I was proud of myself anyway: I made a phone call using a payphone. Thank God they still existed back then. I asked the salesperson at a nearby store to  change a dollar bill fo...

Liberty and Ellis Islands, May, 2017

May 2017.  One-day trip to the Statue of Liberty as a birthday gift.     Island of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis island - historical sights of the United States. This is the same as the Red Square in Moscow: all Russians know about it, but not all have been there. So, both islands are located in New York Harbor. Visitors arrive and depart Liberty and Ellis Islands via ferries. Statue of Liberty, history For over one hundred years, the Statue of Liberty has stood in New York Harbor, facing out to sea and holding high a burning torch. The statue’s full name is Liberty Enlightening the World. It was a gift from France, given to America in 1886. It is the tallest statue in the world. From the ground to the top of the torch the statue measures 93 meters (305 feet), and weighs 204 metric tonnes. The statue has an iron infrastructure and copper exterior which has turned green due to oxidation. Although it’s a sign of damage, the patina (green coating) also acts as...

October 10th 2023

In addition to the Ukrainian war, we got another Israeli war, just what the world needed (😟 ). I have no opinion other than that it's terrible. I'm going to read and talk to my husband about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, just to find out something for myself. My friend sent me photos of the autumn and was waiting for emotions from me about how beautiful it is there. Yes, it's beautiful, but, unfortunately, no emotions. However, Tomsk, like other Russian cities, is full of life and events. On October 7, people celebrated Putin's birthday. Really? I watch several YouTube news channels from Russia, official government channels. Here's what I found: “An action in support of the president was held in Russia. People turned to the People's Front movement with a proposal to hold a car rally . ” I saw it on the news and decided to find out what the “people’s front” is and what people wanted to congratulate the president. So, The People’s Front is an organization ...
