Nostalgia, old movies, journal.

Journaling 6* Sometimes I get nostalgic. Then I turn on some old movie on my tablet and don't even watch it, just listen. Often this helps me write. And I have to write often because this semester I have to journal for two subjects. Well, you know, right, that I study at BCC*? The book I have to read is called Atomic Habits by James Clear. Have you read it or heard of it? Actually, I like it. The author explains that ‘small’ habits can make a ‘big’ difference.  He also says ‘forget about goals, focus on the system instead’. I completely agree with that. How many times have I started to learn Portuguese? 5-6? but I didn't have a system. I would watch YouTube videos made by one person, that go to another hoping for better results and then to the next one YouTube feed shows to me. And in a week I stop watching all of them.  Along with that book I am reading The Skinny Rules by Bob Harper. I want to figure out how to eat healthier.  The first rule is drink a big glas...

My DNA

I knew it, I always knew it! Oh, no, I didn't know, I felt it!  I'm writing a post, emotions are beating over the edge... I don't know where to start from/ who to start with... the post is being written thanks to my husband, but I'll start with dad. To begin with, my dad was a “storyteller.”  No, he didn't write fairy tales, he told them. The main fairy tale of our family: the swarthiness of the skin and brown eyes were inherited by him and my younger sister from the great-great-grandmother of a gypsy who ran away from the gypsy camp.  Look at our photos, how different we are. Our parents told us that I looked like my grandfather (dad's dad), and my sister looked like my grandmother (his mother).  To be honest, I believed in it as a child. As I grew up, I began to doubt whether my parents would come up with anything. I don't even know about Dad, if he believed his own words. You can't ask now. When dad was no longer with us, but the Internet and social...

Rendezvous with the ocean

It is my day off. I went to the rendezvous today…rendezvous with the ocean.  Good thing I don't need to make an appointment for this. I hate appointments. LOL. When I first moved to New Bedford, the ocean was WOW! for me. I admired it, its power, waves, wind, smell, boats, even seaweed, and huge seagulls, of course.  I was collecting seashells and taking them home every time until… Until I get used to the fact that the ocean is here, it’s not going anywhere. And I am here too. Sometimes I can smell it in my backyard, if the wind is blowing in the right direction. I am happy to know that yes, there is an ocean 15 minutes away from here. But I hardly find the time to visit it. Pity. My colleague talked about her hobbies, something like she needs to find a new hobby… I am thinking, should I create a hobby of visiting the ocean once a month? Can I call it a hobby?  Maybe it’s better to call it a tradition?  What do we need to create a new tradition? A company, a r...

Summer has officially begun

Summer has officially begun for us on Sunday evening - we watered the garden.  Actually, my husband started watering the flower and vegetable beds a couple of days ago. But I didn't take it seriously: it often rained and was cool at night. But now… My eyes itch from pollen, allergy pills are a necessary breakfast supplement. And… watering the gardens. But I don’t complain, don’t I? My Tomsk friend Marina put on a coat when she and her husband went to watch the half marathon* in Tomsk. Forecasters predict frosts from 32° to 26°F in the north of the Tomsk region on June 4 and 5. And in general, in the first half of June, the air temperature will be 2-4°  below normal. Meanwhile, forests are burning in Buryatia**. Since May 26, a ban on visiting forests has been introduced in the republic. Nevertheless, the Buryat Republican agency reports that more than 440 people are extinguishing forest fires in an area of over 34 hectares. It is believed that the cause of the occurrenc...

Tomsk news June, 2023

Due to wildfires in Canada, New York was covered in smog. It's cloudy here, but it only seems so. In fact, there is also a slight smog and a faint smell of smoke in the air. Tomsk is also an apocalypse: 90°F. And this is in early June! And even after the Bird-cherry blossoms. You probably don't know, but there are several superstitions related to the weather. They probably vary depending on the locality/region. But after the Bird- cherry blossoms in Tomsk it gets colder. The cherry blossoms have faded, but instead of cold , the region got a heat wave.  Probably, because of global warming, national signs no longer work. The fires did not bypass Tomsk. The press service of the city administration reports that the number of forest fires in the Tomsk region has increased to 41. 525 people and 66 pieces of equipment are involved in extinguishing. An AN-26 "Cyclone" sounding plane arrived from Irkutsk to create artificial precipitation. Rain is caused by silver iodide. Wh...
