September. Vacation.

The first working week after the vacation has passed. The nights have become cooler, we got warm blankets, sometimes we wear sweatshirts in the morning, but we don't close the windows. Autumn - time of the year when I like cooking soups, baking bread and cookies and frying draniki. So, vacation… We went to Canada, buried Dan's mom's ashes in her parents' grave. We drove for 7 hours with two stops and a plant. We were going to plant it there in the cemetery, but it turned out that it was impossible. The plant was brought back safely, it will bloom soon. This is not unusual for a potted chrysanthemum. It is unusual that the rhododendron bloomed in our yard in October instead of May. Canada (Quebec province) surprised with its flat terrain after the mountainous and wooded state of Vermont, through which we drove. The nature of Vermont strongly resembles the Altai Mountains. But as soon as we crossed the border the landscape changed: the flatland, cornfields, cows and the...

Sunday Tea Party

On Sunday (Sept 17th) my colleagues and I went to Plymouth. You won't believe why? To drink tea out! Moreover, a former colleague who conceived and found a café could not go at the last moment. Plymouth* is a tourist town 40-50 minutes drive from New Bedford. Daniel and I have been there 3-4 times for sure. 2015 Usually in small tourist towns, shops, cafes and restaurants are located on the first floors of buildings on the main street(s).  Parking is not easy to find. This is probably what keeps me away from traveling around the area on my own. Shelly's tea room is the name of the cafe. There is also a shop where you can buy loose tea (expensive, but in tourist places it is always so) and souvenirs. The owners are English. They offer tea (100 types) and scones . Everything is edible, but it's not very interesting for me. The most interesting thing was the world map on the wall. On this map, visitors use flags to mark where they are from. I couldn't resist and noted To...

The word of the day is friends

It was raining from morning until the evening. Usually there are fewer visitors in the library on such days. And what does that mean? That we can devote more time to those who came. In the morning, one young woman was looking for books about metaphysics, different religions, their connections and origins, as well as tarot cards. I showed her shelves with similar books. And then we started talking. It turned out that she was learning Russian. Why?? I don't know, I didn't ask. But isn't it cool? I remembered how I learned English and how I dreamed of meeting a native speaker. And after all, I met! One day a young woman came into the store where I worked and explained in broken Russian that she needed a jacket. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a jacket for her. But I was On top of the world when I found out she was American.  And out of happiness and excitement, I forgot what to say to get acquainted in English. A few words I could put together were asking for her email....

Still Life

There are elections in Russia, an earthquake in Morocco, and a 86° F  heat wave in New Bedford, the repair of the bridge, which lasted 16 months, was completed in Tomsk, and 75 years of the DPRK. And so,  -Voting is taking place in Russia (from 8 to 10 September) in 85 regions, including the DPR, the LPR, the Kherson region (territories temporarily occupied by Russia). Citizens elect governors, deputies of legislative assemblies and even a mayor somewhere. In the city of Gelendzhik, it was not without a curiosity: Two election observers were handed summonses to the military enlistment office right at the polling station. Deputy of the Krasnodar Duma Alexander Safronov called the events intimidation of observers. The deputy attached photos of the summonses, in which observers Igor Ogorodnikov and Alexey Lobanov were instructed to appear to “clarify personal data”. The military enlistment office of Gelendzhik categorically denied issuing subpoenas. Well, who do we believe...

Sudden discovery

It dawned on me today, but I'll start from afar. In Russia, you can often hear the expression: “if you do not love yourself, no one will love you”. Everything is clear to me here, everything is according to the Law of Attraction of the Universe. Absolutely in any country in the world there are women who take care of themselves very carefully, those who dress with taste (in accordance with their budget), carefully think over their look, see a hairdresser, paint their nails with nail polish, etc, and others who are not very worried about their appearance. 2013, Tomsk  10 years ago I was the 1st type of woman. 10 years later, I became “different”, only my accent remained the same. 😼 It's not that I don't care about my appearance at all, but I haven't used nail polish for the entire month!   The problem is the lack of free time. Yes, yes, I know, if you want something, you'll find the time, and if you don't want it, an excuse. In defense of myself, I want to say ...

Labor day, Evening.

Monday/Holiday evening.  8 pm. I returned home from CVS, not really CVS - the UPS drop off in CVS (on Kempton street, New Bedford). I was only gone for about half an hour.  I sat down next to my husband. -What would I do without you?- he said -What?! What did I do wrong?- I thought I tried to imagine his life without me… Well, it could be less stressful and more relaxed. He wouldn’t try unknown dishes. Everything would be in the usual order and with no surprises.  No stress from trying to understand my pronunciation and choice of words. His life would or could have been simple.  In general, I am not so bad. I work, cook and clean a house (sometimes). We can talk about many things. We share responsibilities and support each other. We are a team. As a compliment about myself, I meet him with different people, really different: a family from Georgia (not a US state), from Iran, from Moldova (former Soviet Republic), Russia, and of course, with my American friends...

End of August in Russia

Tomsk telegram channel calls August - a month when the summer ends, parents and children get ready for a new school year (in Russia it starts on September 1st for all students),  gardeners pick up the crop and clean up the gardens.   Here, it’s a little bit different. It’s still warm, even hot and humid. Humid but not wet how it is in Primorye. Primorye is a territory in Far East Russia: the Amur River, Baikal Lake, border with China, and the Pacific Ocean. Over the past day, a monthly amount of precipitation has fallen in Primorye. In Primorsky Krai, 29 settlements were cut off from road traffic due to flooding, several bridges were destroyed, suburban and long-distance passenger trains were delayed.  The beginning of the school year has been shifted by several days, taking into account another impending typhoon Sanba, - according to the governor Oleg Kozhemyako. Another news that caught my attention from that region… China has released a new map on which the isla...
